Investment Gathering At COOB Coffee, Penang

After gathering in Gurney Drive one and a half years ago, Deric was here in Penang to have investment gathering again. We had our gathering last night at COOB Coffee. Beside Deric and his girlfriend who were ocming from KL, there were also people coming from Tambun, Chai Leng Park, and also Kedah. I felt so glad to see that, especially two juniors from my former university coming from UUM after finished yesterday's exam.

Thanks to all of them, I have a wonderful night. We shared our knowledge, and we learn from each other. Again, I learned a lot from Deric.

Time always the enemy of wonderful moment. We started our discussion and sharing at 6 o'clock and ended at about 10 o'clock. We spent four hours together, but it seems like only one or two hours only. Time passed very fast.

After the gathering, five of us had our second round somewhere around Jetty. We were there until 12 o'clock. I enjoyed this gathering a lot.

Oh ya, also shouldn't forget to thank Andrew as well. Andrew, thank you for fetching me home after the gathering.

Earth Hour 2013

Check out the calendar, it's 23 March 2013 today! It's the EARTH HOUR!

Earth Hour was started in Sydney in the year of 2007. It was organised by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to ask people to switch off the light for one hour to reduce the consumption of energy.

After started in Sydney, it was then being participated by other countries in the world. From one city, this event was being extend to more than 7,000 cities across the 152 countries last year.

2007: 1 city
2008: 35 countries
2009: 88 countries
2010: 126 countries
2011: 135 countries
2012: 152 countries

But, this year, it seems the event is not as popular as previous years. I don't really hear people talk about it. I wonder how many people will be supporting it this year.

I remembered that, in last year, Earth Hour was one of the most popular topics in the weeks.

Why there is so little people talking about it this year? Is is because the year 2012 has pass? The story of the world is going to end in year 2012 has been proven wrong?

As human, we should always love our Earth. We should not start protecting our Earth just because it is coming to the end of the world. We should protect our Earth everyday. To protect our environment, doesn't means that we have to go participate to every single eco-friendly activities like picking up rubbish along the beach. We can started by the simple actions, such as don't simple throw rubbish and don't burn anything publicly.

If we save our environment, we can save the world!

Responsible Blogging 2013

What's Responsible Blogging 2013?

It is a campaign calling upon the entire online community in Malaysia to rally for and support an ethical climate in the blogosphere for mutual benefit.

It is organised by Crowdpot by partnerting with Nietology which is a high reputable ASEAN mobile device technology company, strongly driven by the people’s pride and importance of being on par with global technology progression and renowned international standards. Phenomenal growth is what we strive for and we who have an eye for details, meticulous with elements of technology, art and beauty – ENSURES this. Inspired by bold and fast-paced lifestyles, product of Ninetology are empowered by today’s solutions for practicality and functionality.

There are 9 main pillars for Responsible Blogging

1. Get Rewarded/Paid Ethically
- Bloggers are ought to get rewarded in many ways but have to be in ethical manner. Crowdpot (oganiser of Responsible Blogging 2013) provides the by far the most ethical approach to any sponsored blogpost.

2. Do check the verity of your information
- Blogger and blog are one. What has been blogged would reflect blogger as a person. If data and facts are incorrect, it will tarnish blogger's credibility greatly. No one wants to read a blog with wrong information.

3. Do regard your readers’ opinions
- No matter how strongly we hold onto a certain opinion, remember that there are other people who treasure their opinions like us too. Always blog with an open mind.

4. Do know that blogger are answerable for his/her blog
- Bloggers might get carried away while blogging about an issue or just our thoughts on a certain dish, but should when wrong information (by accident) was givin, just apologize. No harm in saying sorry. Plus, it saves you the time and effort in defensing later.

5. Do be aware of the country’s Copyright Law
- Remember not to copypaste and publish stuff that is not your original idea. The rightful owner can sue for copyright infringement and things can get ugly.

6. Don’t forget to give credits
- Just in case sharing from someone else (because the content is too good to not be shared), remember that we should always give due credit to its rightful owner.

7. Do write a Disclaimer
- Sometimes we might get carried away with our strong opinions about an issue. However if we work for an organization, it is a good idea to include a disclaimer to protect us and the company by stating that your viewpoints do not represent the company and they are solely yours.

8. Be Transparent
- With Sponsored Posts we do not want to be branded as an ambassador for a certain company because every time you talk about that brand, our readers will equate us to it and that loses our credibility.

9. Be flexible and be a friend to all

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012

Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) is finally over. I supposed post it 5 days ago right? Haha.

I was waiting to see any of my pictures was uploaded so that I can post it here as well. But couldn't find any until now.

Okay, let's start my story telling.

I was joining for half marathon category, which is going to start at 3am. But, my friend and I departed at around 10 o'clock. We worried that we couldn't find car park. So, we reach there quite early and have to wait for hours.

Perhaps, because of feeling nervous and a little bit of anxiety (as this is my first time joining), I was feeling a little bit not well.

Full marathon started at 2am. I witnessed the kick off of the race. Wow! It's motivating!

While it's near to 3am, I got ready to start my run.

3am.... Finally started..... It's really very crowded.

Ouch!!! Something happened! I wasn't got on bridge yet and my stomach started to feel pain. I guessed I hurt my stomach.

After got on the bridge. I feel even more painful and I started to walk. Negative thought came into my mind. I thought of giving up and seek for St. John's help.

Suddenly, something great happened. Someone beside me talked to me. Asking me whether was I all right. Then, he started to guide me, teaching me what should I do and how should I manage my run.

We talked a lot.

His name, Adrian. He is from Pahang and working in KL. His colleagues and he were coming from KL purposely for the run.

As he was running for full marathon, I had to say good bye to him at 9th km of marathon.

Thanks to him, I got back my confidence. Due to my physical and mental condition that moment, I decided to practice one of his method. After running 570 steps, I will walk for 190 steps. I kept repeating it, and it did work.

I finished 17km, I felt so exhausted. Then, I spent most of my time on walking until I gave my last shot in final km. That final 4km was suffering as I was exhausted. It was 4km, but I felt it like more than 8km.

In the final km, I was trying my best to run faster. With the cheers from the cheering team, I feel motivated and I felt like crying. At the beginning where I hurt my stomach, I felt like giving up. But my determination (with support from Adrian), I manage to make it. I feel so glad and self-fulfilled.

After the run, I rested for 2 hours before I manage to move.

While resting, I asked Leng Chin to checked my Facebook whether the live tracking system worked.

Yeah. The system worked out properly. Quite good ya.

After my rest, Leng Chin, Ray, David and I went for breakfast at Subway and changing clothes before we left at around 9.30am.

It's a meaningful run. I perhaps performed not that well, but it's a good experience for me.

For sure, I am joinning again next year, probably 21km. And, I hope that I could meet Adrian again.

PBIM 2013! We will meet again!

OSKIC 2012 Seminar @ USM

2 days ago, on 16th October, OSKIC organised an investment seminar in USM. I attended. The previous time I attend seminar organised by OSKIC was back on year 2010. It was organised in KL last time. This year, they came to Penang. For sure, I will not miss the opportunity to attend.

I departed at 6.45am. As I was travelling by bus, I needed to depart earlier. I reached USM at 8.30am and my friend brought me to Cahaya Siswa where the seminar was held.

The registration started at 9am.

The response was great!

The hall is full.

At 9.30am, the seminar started.

OSK sent the head of research, Mr. Shin Kao Jack to be the speaker of the day. Mr. Shin Kao Jack has been with OSK since 2002. He is quite a experienced analyst.

He covered two main topics in his talk:-
1. How to evaluate a company
2. The life as an analyst

I believe it's quite a good lesson for the beginners to get to know what are the main elements to consider when evaluating a companies, such as competitive advantage and management. Mr. Shin mentioned also the common mistake that people always made, such as buying at the cycle peak.

In talking about life as an analyst, he told us what are the responsibilities and jobs done by analyst. While he was telling us, he inspired me. I felt motivated and excited. And now, I am feeling more energetic. Thanks to Mr. Shin.

After Mr. Shin's talk, here comes Kenneth. He was giving tutorial on how to use the OSKIC platform to trade. It was a good session for beginners who don't know about how to trade shares.

The seminar ended at 11.30pm and lunch was serves for us.

Similar 2 years ago, during the refreshment, I walked a round to talk to OSKIC staffs as well as the analyst.

Although I didn't talk much as in year 2010, It was fruitful as well. I was talking with Mr. Shin about rubber glove sector, Old Town, Asia Media, properties as well as palm oil.

At around 12.15pm, I left USM. I hope I could attend next year seminar as well.

2 more weeks to go for OSKIC 2012 competition to come to the end. Good luck to all the participants this year!

OSKIC Roadshow At UUM

Heard of OSKIC?

Some people may be familiar to it already.

It's an investment competition opens for universities and colleges students. I have been supporting OSKIC since it started. I have posted quite a numbers of posts relating to OSKIC. Perhaps, if you are interested, you may click [here] to check out my previous posts relating to OSKIC.

This year, OSKIC brings good news to UUM students. OSKIC send their roadshow team to UUM today. The roadshow locates at Varsity Mall, from 10am to 5pm.

Let's check out what's happening in the roadshow.

It seems great, isn't it?

OSKIC may bring another good news to UUM students. Some of my juniors have been arranging with OSKIC team to organize a classroom briefing in UUM next week. Anyway, everything is still in planning. Hope everything is smooth and hope UUM approves the application of the events.

As I know, OSKIC trial game is ending this week. The real competition will be kicked start next week. This Friday is going to be "BUDGET 2013 DAY", perhaps that can be a clue to help next weeks trading. Good luck to all the participants!
