The Haze

What's that in the photo?

It's the tallest building in Penang, KOMTAR!

It looks so blur, isn't it?

I didn't make any photo editing. I swear.

The haze has 'attacked' Penang. It's very hazy today.

I wonder....
how long will it last?

I wonder....
why is this problem remain unsolved for so many years??

I wonder....
how many people have sick because of this???

Really hope that the haze will say good bye to us very soon..... Haze, please go away......

Earth Hour 2013

Check out the calendar, it's 23 March 2013 today! It's the EARTH HOUR!

Earth Hour was started in Sydney in the year of 2007. It was organised by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to ask people to switch off the light for one hour to reduce the consumption of energy.

After started in Sydney, it was then being participated by other countries in the world. From one city, this event was being extend to more than 7,000 cities across the 152 countries last year.

2007: 1 city
2008: 35 countries
2009: 88 countries
2010: 126 countries
2011: 135 countries
2012: 152 countries

But, this year, it seems the event is not as popular as previous years. I don't really hear people talk about it. I wonder how many people will be supporting it this year.

I remembered that, in last year, Earth Hour was one of the most popular topics in the weeks.

Why there is so little people talking about it this year? Is is because the year 2012 has pass? The story of the world is going to end in year 2012 has been proven wrong?

As human, we should always love our Earth. We should not start protecting our Earth just because it is coming to the end of the world. We should protect our Earth everyday. To protect our environment, doesn't means that we have to go participate to every single eco-friendly activities like picking up rubbish along the beach. We can started by the simple actions, such as don't simple throw rubbish and don't burn anything publicly.

If we save our environment, we can save the world!

There is a big event on today. I believe a lot of people know it. Yea, It's the EARTH HOUR 2012!

It is originated from Australia where WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald held it for the first time in Sydney in 2007. In that first Earth Hour, 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated to switch off all the light which is not necessary. Last year, approximately 1.8 billion people (around 25% of global population) are participating this event.

It started in city, it's now participated more than hundred countries.

2007: 1 city
2008: 35 countries
2009: 88 countries

2011: 135 countries

So, are you supporting the Earth Hour this year?

Don't forget, we shouldn't just simply support this event. We should know the purpose of this event, to save energy and to protect our earth.

Let us save energy from day to day!

A Great Guy I Saw In Bus

Yesterday was the final working day. Yeah, I am going to have one week holiday.

Kinda long?

Initially I thought so too. But after drafted out my schedule, it looks like my schedule is totally full!

Anyway, when I was taking bus home yesterday, I saw something great!

When the bus came, as usual, people were 'fighting' to get on the bus. I don't like to 'fight' with them, I stood aside to wait others to get on first. Then, I saw a person was reading Wall Street Journal. Wow, it's quite rare to see people in Penang reading Wall Street Journal. Then, he gave me a good impression as he didn't 'fight' to get on the bus. He waited to be the final person to get on the bus.

Well, that's the the great thing yet.

The wonderful thing is.......

After he got on the bus, he picked up the rubbish on the bus. Wow! He is such a eco-friendly person. He impressed me a lot! The Earth will be feeling happy with existence of him, right?

My GSH Plan

If you were close to me during my first and second year of my UUM life,
I believe that you know I was an environmental friendly person.
I was trying to protect the environment and promoting to my friends to do the same.

Unfortunately, due to a recycle project that I joined in my university.
It disappointed me.
I joined with my friend with the objective to raise the awareness of university students regarding the climate change that we were facing.
However, what disappointed me very much is that, most committee members aren't really care about environmental friendly,
They joined the project just simply because they wanted to have activities and marks.
After that, I quit. And my ambitious of protecting the environment was done.

Recently, after I finished my practicum, I think that I shouldn't care so much.
It's really hard to ask people to have a environmental friendly life style.
But, at least, I should do it myself, right.
Although I couldn't change anything, it's still better than nothing, right?

Yea!

I reform my plan, which I call it as GSH plan.

G stands for Green
S stands for Saving
H stands for Health

A lot of people don't know the advantage of being environmental friendly.
Being environmental friendly, we aren't only protecting our earth, but also helping us to save money as well as having a better life.

For example, reducing the consumption of meats.
It's one of the best environmental friendly act.
For sure, consumption meat is more expensive then vegetable, isn't it?
Moreover, it's healthier!

In my GSH plan, I have drafted some of the activities that I can do.

1. Walk more rather than having transport.
2. Consuming more vegetables than meats.
3. Reducing the time spent on internet.
4. Taking bath without water heater.
5. Fully utilize the papers.

I which my friends will also follow me to do at least few of the acts.
Let's save the environment now!

If we save the environment, we can save the world!

Did You Off Light During Earth Hour 2011?

After I discovered Facebook introduce the questionnaire feature, I asked a question.

Here is it:
Do you support Earth Hour last night?

89 people responded with 57 people supported and 32 didn't.

There are several comments for this activity. People are questioning on whether are such activities effective to save the world?
There is no exactly answer. More or less, I believe there is some effect.
It really could raise awareness of human on protecting our earth.
But for some people, it's just an activity.

My friends and I joined a recycle project during the my university life.
I joined in one semester and left that project at the following semester, but my friends continued.

Why did I quit out from that project?
I disappointed.

Let me show you one conversation.
(I don't remember the exactly ones, but it's something like that)

It happened during an operation of collecting recyclable goods.

My friends and I: What's our lunch later?
Director: Fried rice.
My friends and I: What's the container?
Director: Just the plastic ones.
My friends and I: What?! PLASTIC?
Director: Ya, what's the problem?
My friends and I: We are doing Recycle Project.
Director: Ya ho! Then we better change it.

Get why I disappointed?

Let's Reduce the Waste of A4 Papers

I guess A4 paper is one of the things that we dispose everyday.
Many of us waste a lot of A4 papers.
We just don't care about it.

But do you know how much is the rubbish can be created by A4 paper?

Let us do some mathematics.

The size of A4 paper is 623.7 cm2. (29.7 cm x 21 cm)

If we dispose one piece of A4 paper everyday,
the total size of A4 papers that each of us disposes in a year will be 22.77 m2. (623.7 cm2 x 365 days)

Malaysia's population is around 28.25 millions people.
So,
if every Malaysian disposes one piece of A4 paper everyday,
the total size of A4 papers that Malaysians dispose in a year will be 643.11 km2. (22.7 m2 x 28.25 millions)

How large is 643.11 km2??

It's 95% larger than Malaysia!

So,
let's reducing the waste of A4 paper!
Let's go green!
